Its been about 6 weeks since I started at DC Byte and I have learnt so much. What particularly strikes me is how fundamentally important the data centre industry is and how little I knew about it. Speaking to others, working in this sector seems to often come from chance with a lot of people knowing very little before they start. I found this report by Vertiv very helpful in understanding cloud and colocation's position as a mission critical industry. I'd argue it's ranking should now be higher given the industry's incredible acceleration since the time of the report's writing. Given the industry's mission critical consideration, and the challenges finding talent, it is clear more work needs to be done to share the value and requirements of data centres to wider society. And I am very excited to be starting my career in such an important and dynamic sector. https://lnkd.in/e2B3ezQ2#datacentreindustry #missioncritical

A great time visiting the impressive Kao Data campus in Harlow. It was fascinating to learn about the site’s history regarding fibre optic cable and getting to see the famous NVIDIA Cambridge-1 supercomputer. Thank you Adam Nethersole for the wonderful tour and insights.

Last night I attended NexConnect Hub’s first event discussing the workforce in data centres and specifically the opportunities for veterans. It was a very insightful evening and it was great to network with those in the industry. I look forward to the next one! #datacentres #workindatacentres

An interesting feature from BBC News about public cloud and cloud repatriation. Current and future business needs must ultimately drive data centre strategy. https://lnkd.in/esVVxuhX#cloudcomputing #datacentres #publiccloud

A few weeks ago I refused to be capped at my graduation in protest of University of Strathclyde’s mismanagement and poor treatment of staff and students. Because of Strathclyde’s failure to manage the marking boycott situation I am left without my degree that I have worked 5 years towards. Additionally, my graduation was completely tainted after being separated from my cohort. Despite doing the exact same work, I was not allowed to be included in the same awards and was made to walk separately in the procession following the ceremony. This was hugely upsetting and unfair given it was completely Strathclyde’s doing. Today, I am still in the dark of when this will be resolved with Strathclyde doing very little to communicate and reassure me. What’s your response: Jim McDonald, David Hillier, University of Strathclyde#strathlife #settlethedispute

With my graduation tomorrow, I remain deeply unhappy that University of Strathclyde have failed to #settlethedispute. Not only am I graduating without a degree or classification, I have now learned that I won’t be included with my peers who have received their confirmed award. Instead of graduating with a Masters degree in International Business with French, I will be walking across the stage with a provisional award at Bachelor level, which is ultimately meaningless to me and not what I’ve worked 5 years towards. This is a huge slap in the face by Strathclyde and does not give me or my fellow peers the recognition we deserve. What's your response? Jim McDonald, David Hillier, University of Strathclyde, Strathclyde Business School#strathlife
